Firefighter exposure trackingEvery fire leaves a trace. We make it visible.

A firefighter exposure record logs, call by call, what each firefighter was exposed to: type of fire, position held, duration, protection and decontamination. VB Safety helps French fire services (SDIS) keep it for every firefighter and send it to their medical service (SSSM), with the Carnet Expo CMR, a contamination reporting tool.

What is at stake

A recognised risk, exposures still poorly recorded

01

Exposures that go unrecorded

In 2024 the French Senate noted that exposure forms were not filled in systematically. In 2023, the public-sector pension fund (CNRACL) recorded only 24 occupational disease claims from firefighters.

02

Decontamination that is hard to prove

Undressing zone, bagged gear, wipes, shower: the steps exist, but nothing shows they were actually done, firefighter by firefighter.

03

Effects that appear decades later

Without a dated, individual record, linking a disease to past calls is very hard when seeking recognition.

What we do for you

From the fire ground to the medical file, without retyping

A tool designed with firefighters that follows the real path of a call: the crew commander records, command follows up, the medical service checks.

Demo available

Carnet Expo CMR

The crew's contamination report, filled in at the end of the call.

  • Written by the crew commander or incident commander for the whole crew: role, breathing apparatus, contamination, decontamination
  • Station command sees which reports are up to date, pending or late, and sends reminders
  • The medical service checks, corrects, imports its measurements and validates
  • Each firefighter views and exports their own history
  • Role-based access enforced by the server

PPE module

Turnout gear tracking (jacket, trousers, hood), linked to the calls where it was worn and managed by the station's PPE officer.

  • Gear to be changed after each fire
  • Washing and return to service tracked
  • Alert threshold per garment
  • Full history, garment by garment

On-site measurement

A contamination indicator measured on site, to check decontamination instead of assuming it.

  • Quick measurement after the call
  • Result linked to the firefighter and the call
  • Measurement reference kept in the report
  • Developed and tested with firefighters

How it works

4 steps after each call

  1. The crew commander reports

For the whole crew: role held, breathing apparatus, degree of contamination, decontamination steps.

  2. Command checks

Does every call have its report? The station chief sees what is missing and sends reminders, without access to individual data.

  3. The medical service reviews

It views and corrects if needed, adds measurements and samples, then validates and locks the report.

  4. The firefighter keeps the proof

Every dated exposure, the cumulative history, exportable at any time.

Frequently asked questions

What fire services ask us

Who enters the information after a call?

The crew commander or the incident commander, for themselves and their crew. They know the roles held, the use of breathing apparatus and the decontamination conditions. Firefighters have nothing to enter.

Where is the data hosted?

The demo runs on a server in France, with fictitious data. For a real deployment, exposure data is health data: it is hosted by a certified health data host (HDS) or on the fire service's own infrastructure.

Are volunteer firefighters covered?

Yes. They breathe the same smoke as career firefighters, and the bill passed by the French Senate in 2025 explicitly includes them.

Can the tool be adapted to our fire service?

Yes: call types, decontamination protocol, validation circuit, roles and export formats for the medical service can all be configured.

Is the tool available in English?

The tool is currently in French, for French fire services. Contact us if you work outside France.
