Measuring and tracking exposure to carcinogens (CMR agents) The risk is recognised. We make it visible.

VB Safety measures and tracks exposure to carcinogens. For firefighters, industry and construction.

Our approach

Making exposure measurable, traceable, shareable.

The effects of carcinogens appear years after exposure. What is not recorded on the day is lost, for medical follow-up and for recognition.

VB Safety is a French company that measures and tracks occupational exposure to carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) agents. For French fire services (SDIS) and their medical service, the Carnet Expo CMR records each firefighter's exposure after every call. For industry and construction, our tools keep the list of exposed workers, individual exposure records and the chemical risk assessment required by French law.

01 · Safety & Industry

Measure in the field

Qualify exposure where it happens: on the fire ground, on site, in the workshop.

02 · Health

Link to medical follow-up

Every exposure attached to the person, sent to the health service and kept over time.

03 · Compliance

Keep obligations up to date

Exposed workers list, individual records and a working basis for the risk assessment, built from field entries.

CMR tracking tools

One exposure engine, three trades.

One approach, adapted to each trade. The firefighter space is open as a demo with an access code; the industry and construction space is in preparation · early access. The chemical risk assessment tool is already available for free. The tools are in French, built on French regulation.

Firefighters

Every call leaves a trace. The Carnet Expo CMR attaches it to each firefighter and checks it does not come back to the station.

01

Individual exposure tracking

Not a call report: one exposure per firefighter. Role actually held, breathing apparatus and time engaged, full gear or not, smoke conditions and contaminant profile by type of fire.

02

Decontamination check

Decontamination is recorded for each firefighter, with a contamination indicator measured on site. What has not been done stays visible before the report is sent.

  • Entered at the end of the call by the crew commander, in a few minutes
  • CMR agents involved and crew summary generated automatically
  • Sent to the medical service and locked once validated
Industry · HSE · Occupational health

Industry

All of the employer's obligations regarding CMR agents in one place: inventory, list of exposed workers, exposure limit checks, enhanced health surveillance and the prevention hierarchy.

01

Assessment and tracking

Inventory of CMR substances, processes and by-products, named list of exposed workers (nature, duration, degree), kept for 40 years and sent to the occupational health service.

02

Prevention hierarchy

Substitution, closed systems, exposure reduction, collective protection then PPE: each measure documented, in the order required by the French labour code.

  • Annual exposure limit checks scheduled, reports archived, alerts before deadlines
  • Health surveillance deadlines, without storing any medical data
  • Exports ready for occupational health and staff representatives, assignment restrictions flagged
Company · Site · Team leader

Construction

CMR tracking often relies on year-end memories. Here it is built site after site, from what the team actually did.

  1. 01

    Record from the site

The team leader writes one sentence: “Karim and Lucas, dry-cutting blocks 2 h, FFP3”. The tool recognises the workers, task, duration, process and protection.

  2. 02

    Track per worker

Each task is linked to the CMR agents involved (silica, wood dust, PAHs, diesel emissions…) and given an indicative exposure level. A calendar shows the days not yet recorded.

  3. 03

    Document

Exposed workers list and individual exposure records ready to send to the occupational health service. The chemical risk assessment is a working basis for updating the risk assessment document.

Evolving tool

Built with the teams who use it.

Each version adds agents, trades and modules without changing how data is entered. Your feedback decides what comes next.

Key concepts

Four things to know.

What is a CMR agent?
A substance, mixture or process that is carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction. French labour law covers agents classified in category 1A or 1B under the EU CLP regulation and the carcinogenic processes listed by the order of 26 October 2020, such as work exposing to fire soot (PAHs) or crystalline silica.
What is the list of exposed workers?
Since decree no. 2024-307 of 4 April 2024, in force since 5 July 2024, French employers keep an up-to-date list of workers likely to be exposed to CMR agents. It is sent to the occupational health service, which keeps it for 40 years. Free template (FR).
What is a firefighter exposure record?
A call-by-call record of what each firefighter was exposed to: type of fire, position held, duration, protection and decontamination. It supports medical follow-up and, later, the recognition of an occupational disease. Health and law guide (FR).
What is the chemical risk assessment?
In France, the single risk assessment document (DUERP, labour code art. R. 4121-1) must include an assessment of chemical risks: products used, hazards, conditions of use, workers concerned and prevention measures.
